The United States Embassy in Croatia is located on a 4 hectare complex in Buzin, about 7 kilometers from the city center. A staff of over 200 Croatian and American employees work together to promote strong relations between the United and America, including:

  • The Ambassador is the personal representative of the President in Croatia and together with the Deputy Chief of Mission advocates for important U.S. policy goals and directs assistance and outreach efforts throughout the country.
  • The United States Defense Attache Office manages bilateral defense relations with Croatia's Ministry of Defense (MoD), works with the MoD to mount joint military exercises, and also organizes all ship visits by U.S. naval vessels to Croatia.
  • The Political/Economic section provides official information about U.S. government decisions and policies to the Croatian government and informs the Secretary of State about political and economic developments in Croatia.
  • The U.S. Commercial Service assists U.S. companies seeking to invest in or export to Croatia. It also promotes cooperation and partnerships between U.S. and Croatian companies.
  • The Public Affairs Office acts as the Embassy press office and runs most U.S. Government-funded cultural, information, and educational exchange programs. The office also maintains an Information Resource Center (IRC) at the Embassy for institutions, Embassy officers, and to the American and Croatian general public.
  • The Consular section provides a variety of services for Americans and visa services.
  • The Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) represents the United States European Command (EUCOM) and coordinates Security Assistance (SA) activities and Defense Cooperation programs with the Croatian Ministry of Defense.
  • The Foreign Agricultural Service's Zagreb office represents the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in Croatia.

As a major energy consumer in Zagreb, the Embassy is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and support environmentally sustainable activities in Croatia. Embassy Zagreb is a founding member of both the League of Green U.S. Embassies as well as the local Green Building Council of Croatia. We support a growing range of recycling and energy saving programs in our operations.
