Croatia Green Building Council (CGBC)

Croatia Green Building Council (CGBC) was formed in 2009 by 24 reputable companies and institutions as a non-profit organisation. The initiative for all its activities comes from the CGBC members and partners, who are also the ones to manage these activities. In May 2010, the Council was formally registered in Croatia (www.appluprava.hr/RegistarUdruga/) and it started enlisting members.

The association has pursued its goal of being the leader in transformation of the Croatian construction and real estate markets towards sustainability, by promoting green building programmes and technologies, as well as integrating the available and obtained knowledge, experience and insights into design, construction and management of buildings in Croatia.

There are currently 100 active members from different areas (business, the public sector, academia) in our association. The Croatia Green Building Council is also an established member of the World Green Building Council (http://www.worldgbc.org/) and its European network. An initiative for building stronger ties with other Councils in our neighbourhood (CEE, SEE) came from us, wishing to exchange experiences, knowledge and activities designed for the capacities and opportunities of regional markets in accordance with their size, close ties and traditions, tendencies and ambitions in the domains of architecture and building.

The CGBC's aim is to work with public and private sectors alike, to apply sustainable building principles and offer to the market content and activities based on several key areas. Our contribution consists of:

  • providing information to and educating people
  • enabling cooperation and forging partnerships with other organizations
  • organising symposiums, seminars, workshops, conferences and annual meetings
  • organising and taking part in public-awareness campaigns and, where appropriate, working to further build regulations

The CGBC has managed to position itself as a worthy source of information, contacts, knowledge, while providing all forms of support needed by stakeholders in the domain of green economy, sustainable development and green building. Since the beginning of CGBC's operation, its members have had an ambition to share with everyone their knowledge of sustainable building, to promote green building practices and technologies, to develop and run educational programmes, to raise the awareness of the business community, relevant stakeholders, professionals, media and the general public in Croatia.
